Chechnya: a war of innovation?

Innovations, new contexts, new weapons and new lessons constitute a whole that conditions the outcome of conflicts. Much has been said, in the case of the Chechen rebels, especially after their victory in the Battle of Grozny, about their ability to innovate, some authors even stating that what happened there was a true revolution. Throughout this article we are going to try to find out which innovations - in a broad sense - influenced both the First Chechen War (1994-1996) and the Second Chechen War (1999-2009). Also to make an assessment as aseptic as possible, trying to clarify whether the main tactical, doctrinal or technical changes seen in the two wars in Chechnya really represented true innovations, with important effects on the final outcome of the war or whether, on the contrary, Its importance has been exaggerated.
