In the 1980s, Colombian drug trafficking launched harsh armed offensives in its war against extradition. In those years, a member of ETA taught the Medellín Cartel how to attack with car bombs. Thus, this terrorist tactic was used hundreds of times by Pablo Escobar's hitmen, leaving thousands of dead throughout the Latin American country. In addition, attacks with remote-controlled explosives were also used by the Cali Cartel, with whom ETA would negotiate, years later, to mediate with the Calabrian mafia.
