Naval electronic warfare (III): Electronic countermeasures
Electronic countermeasures constitute the active and, therefore, the best known part of elusive electronic warfare. Its uses are very varied, but usually oriented towards the second half of the definition of electronic warfare: denying the use of the spectrum to the enemy. Typically only useful once supporting measures have done their part, ECMs can deceive or disrupt enemy sensors, both those they use to detect us and those they need to attack us. Thus, countermeasures are a fundamental part of anti-missile defense. For their part, protection measures aim to defend against these attacks both with material means and through employment doctrines.
