Airspace will be heavily contested in the future. In that operating environment, capital aircraft such as the AWACS E-3 Sentry or the JSTARS will not be able to survive and will have to be retired from service. To make matters worse, the fifth generation fighters will not be able to operate with freedom of action at the risk of also being shot down. The ABMS system of systems will replace E-3 Sentry and JSTARS. However, it will not be a platform but a large system of platforms of various types; a node that will coordinate the entire air war in a distributed manner and network war. Furthermore, it is possible that it will have a revolutionary effect and become the core of the future joint Multi-Domain Warfare.
