The Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 marked the high point in tensions between West and East during the Cold War. At least, it was the moment of greatest tension and possibility of escalation until nuclear war between the two superpowers. The analysis of what happened then left several lessons that helped, in the following decades, not to repeat the mistakes that had led to such a situation. A series of lessons that today, more than ever, seem forgotten.
