Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is today the most powerful jihadist organization in Syria. Following the fall of the Daesh Caliphate and the growth of HTS, the Syrian group governs the province of Idlib. The former Al-Qaeda proxy in Syria follows a model similar to that of Hamas or Hezbollah. In the voice of experts, reasoning as a resistance movement. The new missile base of the Chinese nuclear force

It has recently become known that China is building 119 silos for intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), probably of the DF-41 type. The discovery is, potentially, one more step in the probable radical change of the structure of China's nuclear force, something that the Asian country has been carrying out for some years. However, the news does not take analysts and observers of Chinese nuclear strategy completely by surprise. For some years now, there has been a growing number of indications and rumors that China is updating and modifying its conservative nuclear strategy, which consisted of maintaining a very small number of warheads and low alert levels, moving towards a much larger arsenal. and with alert levels comparable to those of Russia and the USA. The security of the cyber domain in Spain

Throughout history we can see that the progressive appearance of new technologies always entails a change in military doctrines, even if this does not occur immediately (Torres, 2013: 331). The way of waging war and its methods have evolved with humanity. The technological development that human beings have been able to experience throughout history has generally been linked to the search for military superiority over their enemies. And just as the development of navigation, aviation or space conquest translated into the opening of new “domains”[1] and spheres of influence in the method of war, today cybernetic technological development has given gives rise to the emergence of a new one: the cyber domain. The end of Operation Barkhane and the future of Mali

France declared a few days ago its decision to end Operation Barkhane in the Sahel. The question now arises regarding the consequences that this decision could imply for security in Mali, neighboring countries and a hypothetical increase in the jihadist threat against Europe. A topic discussed a few months ago by the RAND Corporation, an institution that brought together several experts in regional security in the Sahel to debate the implications of a then hypothetical French withdrawal from Mali and the end of Operation Barkhane. The arguments put forward in the debate were published following Chatham House style rules (preserving the anonymity of the participants to encourage speculation and free debate). The cyber attack on Colonial

Cybercriminals have crossed the red lines and now it's time to face the consequences. The cyber attack on Colonial is the most serious known to date against a US energy infrastructure. The typology of the attack, ransomware as a service, is not new, but it has been a wake-up call about this growing threat, increasingly sophisticated and lucrative. A threat, among other things, due to its impact in the real world, as has been the case in this case, with panic unleashed, lines at gas stations to fill vehicle tanks, several states of emergency and urgent federal legislation to stop the crisis. What happened has worried not only in the US but also globally and has led to some changes, in the short term at least, in the ransomware ecosystem, hence the relevance of this serious “incident”. The strategic competition between great powers

That the United States has been the hegemonic power during the last decades is an incontestable fact. However, the emergence of the People's Republic of China and its growing relevance have raised questions about the continuity of American leadership and hegemony. The era of strategic competition between great powers has arrived and the relationship between both States will determine the course of our century. Particularly as a result of recent events, one of the scenarios where such competition could develop has been the Republic of China or, also known, Taiwan, one of the most painful vestiges of Chinese humiliation and a place where the actions of the great powers will have impact on the tone of the competition that will take place over the next few years. Hezbollah and its global illicit financing network

The phenomenon of globalization and the breaking down of traditional borders, as we see in communication or the financial world, has been a process from which terrorist organizations have also benefited. Something that we clearly observe in groups like Hezbollah, which have developed an entire global network of organized crime that extends across five continents. These illicit activities allow the Lebanese group to finance its actions with ease after the drop in revenue from Iran. Currently, Hezbollah stands as the most funded terrorist group in the world, earning multimillion-dollar income through drug trafficking, smuggling and money laundering. Conflict between Israel and Hamas (II)

To analyze any military confrontation between Israel and Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza on the other hand, we must start from the basis that the Israeli objectives regarding Gaza, in any of the conflicts of recent years, since Sharon's disengagement plan, They have never been about destroying Hamas, as that could lead to chaos in the Strip. Hamas, although it carries out terrorist activities, is not a simple terrorist group that acts in the shadows. Hamas, in addition to managing services to the population in Gaza, is a much less extremist group than other Islamic groups and contributes to partially deradicalizing the local population, limiting clashes and combats to the Palestinian national cause and not to an international Islamist agenda. Conflict between Israel and Hamas (I)

The current cycle of violence between Israel and Hamas, as well as with the other militant groups in Gaza (Hamas and Islamic Jihad are the two main ones, but there are myriad smaller groups), has its immediate origins in the issue of forced evictions of Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem, and the incidents around the Temple Mount and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Surprisingly, Hamas gave an ultimatum to Israel to withdraw its security forces from Sheikh Jarrah and the Al-Aqsa mosque on May 10. Regarding "strategic autonomy"

If in the field of European security and defense in recent years one expression stands out above all, this is that of "strategic autonomy", especially since the publication of the EU Global Strategy in 2016. However, lacking of a concrete definition, this is presented as one of the EU's pending accounts, especially with regard to the preparation of the Strategic Compass.
