The current dispute over the Senkaku Islands (Diaoyu, in Chinese) dates back to the decades after World War II. This small group of islands is today in the spotlight not only of Japan and China but also of the United States, due to its strategic importance in the East Sea. The unrest in the region has put the focus once again on this small point on the map, since the territorial claims of each other are a key point for the security architecture in the Pacific.
