Japan's new National Security Strategy

With an eye on the Chinese threat

The former Empire of the Rising Sun, known in recent decades for its pacifism, has recently approved Japan's new National Security Strategy. A document that, together with the latest National Defense Strategy and Japan's Defense Reinforcement Program, tells us about an escalation in the region, motivated by the rise of the People's Republic of China and its growing assertiveness. With Japan's new National Defense Strategy, Tokyo puts aside the pacifist stance that it had been maintaining since the post-world war, opting for a more offensive one aimed at countering the growing threat posed by the People's Republic of China.
