Meir Kahane (1932-1990) was a controversial figure characterized by the radicality of his speech that defended, among other things, that the political system submit to the rigid observance of his particular vision of the Jewish religion. American by birth and rabbi by training, he moved with his family to Israel. Until his shooting death, he defended extremist positions, projecting his hatred primarily against the Arab population, but also against secular Jews. He once held a seat in the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, before his formation, the Kach, was outlawed. His thought survived him and is still defended today by controversial figures in Israeli politics.
