Unmanned Ground Vehicles

Present and future possibilities

UGVs (Unmanned Ground Vehicles) are, within the family of drones1, probably those that have been proportionally less developed. Until recently, these robots were mainly limited to locating and disposing of explosive ordnance (EOD), which includes mines, munitions and improvised explosives (IED), but interest in the ground version has slowly been growing. The development of technology, especially in the field of artificial intelligence, and the collaboration between the armed forces, the academic world and industry, has meant that a wide range of platforms and systems are being projected to be mounted on them.
