AESA radars for the Eurofighter Typhoon

A complicated past and a promising future

Attempts have been made for decades to develop a family of AESA radars for the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter-bombers. For different reasons, its development and implementation has been delayed over time, encountering technological, financial or political impediments. Only now, when fifth-generation fighter-bombers are already an established reality and there are even development projects for sixth-generation devices underway, have firm steps been taken to update the Typhoons with AESA radars. A story of frustrations, contradictory decisions and, hopefully, also successes, which is well worth telling.
