In recent months, the war in Ukraine has left us atrocious images of destruction in towns such as Liman, Severodonetsk, Lysychansk or more recently Soledar and Bakhmut. Despite the importance given by the media and even by the statements of both contenders, the value of all of them has nothing to do with their population, resources or position, but with the control of two axes of advance with different operational objectives but a common point: the curve and bend formed by the Donets River.
