Attack helicopters have played a varying role in the Ukrainian war. Although this began with a heliborne assault on the Antonov airport in which the transport devices were escorted by several Ka-52s and, in the initial phases, both these and the Mi-24/35 played a relevant role, doctrinal errors and the demonstrated vulnerability to anti-aircraft systems - and even some ATGMs - have been reducing their importance. Throughout the next few lines we will try to explain, as far as possible, the reasons why these weapon systems have not played the role that was expected of them.
