Towards calibrated deterrence and limited use

In the future, the Russian Nuclear Strategy will rely less and less on the threat of Mutual Destruction, to contemplate other types of much more complex scenarios.

The transformations of Russian nuclear strategy since the end of the Cold War affected not only the structure and posture of its nuclear force (with strong reductions in the number of warheads and vectors), but it is in the doctrinal and theoretical aspects where Much more radical changes have occurred, with what I call waves of strategic doctrine occurring (at least three and a possible fourth wave), leaving the deterrent and nuclear strategies of the Cold War obsolete.
