Between September 6 and 13, 2022, the ZSU (Zbroini syly Ukrainy-Ukrainian Armed Forces) executed an ambitious counteroffensive maneuver against the western flank of the Russian projection at Izyum-Kupyansk in Kharkiv Oblast. This offensive allowed Ukrainian forces to advance from the Donets River to the Oskil River, recovering in the process a strip of territory the size of the island of Cyprus.[1], capturing countless Russian material and at the same time, taking hundreds of prisoners and causing hundreds of casualties that were difficult to replace in the VSRF's order of battle.
