The most visible advances in naval warfare since the beginning of the last century have been the appearance of the submarine, the ship-borne aircraft, and the missile. However, it is electronic equipment that has allowed the use of these and other systems and, logically, a bloody battle has been unleashed to use them for personal benefit. Electronic equipment allows modern weapons systems to be used and, without them, fighting would continue like in Jutland. Electronic warfare is a fundamental part of modern naval warfare that, due to its complexity and secrecy, is often overlooked. In this article we will make an introduction that allows us to delve deeper into the topic in successive installments.
