During 2018, the General Staff of the Army, headed by General Varela Salas, launched several studies on what the Army of the future should be. Some were certainly ambitious and proposed a scenario with a large technological component on the 2035 horizon. Others, however, were more mundane and included a study on the composition of the operational logistics force and some changes in small units, introducing modifications or adjustments in the previous plan, which gave rise to the Multipurpose Organic Brigades (BOP).
