The Indian Navy has and will play a key role not only in the defense of the Asian country and its SLOCs, but also for the West, as it is a fundamental ally in containing an increasingly active China in the Indian Ocean. In the years prior to the two world conflicts, there was a feverish shipbuilding race that involved practically all industrialized countries. A race that seems distant to us and that many maintain could never be repeated. Nothing could be further from the truth based on shipbuilding data, especially in Asia, with several of the main world powers in the fray, in a race in which India does not want - nor can it - be left behind.
