Chinese FOBS and Limited Nuclear Options

In search of "War Termination"

On October 16, the American newspaper Financial Times published what, in the world of Strategic Studies, was a real bomb: the supposed test, by China, of a fractional orbital bombardment system or FOBS (Fractional Orbital Bombardent System) combined with a hypersonic missile. The advantages of FOBS lie in their ability to attack by orbital flight, so they can describe unpredictable trajectories and with a flight profile that makes it very difficult to detect, track and intercept them with anti-missile systems or space weapons. Added to the advantages of orbital flight is that in the terminal phase of the attack the weapon re-enters the atmosphere and attacks as a hypersonic glide missile (HGV). Together, the combined characteristics of FOBS and HGV provide unique capabilities to prevail in a crisis or limited nuclear confrontation.
