Despite the relatively recent emergence of MRAPs, derived from the interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan and the massive use of IEDs by insurgents, light all-terrain vehicles (VLTT), represented by the well-known American HMMWV - but which make up a much broader category - continue to be the backbone of our armies due to their low cost, mobility and versatility.
